Research into mental health regarding youths- PTSD Poster Project

Post treatment to many outsiders can be seen as a happy time or a time to celebrate, but to most people it is a time of anger, sadness or anxiety. Trouble with mental health is something super common in youths post treatment and often comes out in forms of anxiety or depression. Although it is said that symptoms and feelings should go or become less often over time, there is often still times that may trigger the patient or those connecting to them. These can include, illness of yourself, illness of others anniversaries or more personal memories.

PTSD can happen as soon as treatment has finished or even years later, these symptoms can be seen n to only in the patient but also in the care givers. It is said that 1 in 5 parents of teenagers with cancer suffer from PTSD due to the trauma.

As well as PTSD and Anxiety it is very common for teenager or youth to experience outbursts of anger post treatment, a lot of these emotions are directed towards life as to why they suffered these issues and sometimes can also be directed at people who didn’t suffer. In an article i read, the writer described how their anger developed into depression like symptoms with feels of suicide and self harm feeling very often and present.

As well as looking at the issues themselves it was nice to see there were a range of positive resources that could help patients and something that I would like to use within my own campaign posters. As not only is it about bringing light to these issues but also creating ways to fix them and help.
