After thinking about the co creation project I know I wanted to create a project that felt very personal to myself. I wanted to tap into a project that would help create a strong message and perhaps educate a targeted audience. That is why after thinking through some different ideas I decided on creating a project based around Childhood cancer and how it can be explained to children using illustration.
After receiving treatment for cancer at the age of ten i know how it feels to have big words thrown at you with no meaning whatsoever. I found it very complicated to come to terms with this new thing that entered my life, and found it scary to feel stuck in the unknown. Towards the start of my treatment i was handed some resources from the charity, Clic Sargent. Clic Sargent is a charity who supports young people with cancer is many different ways from coming to terms with diagnosis to helping siblings int he difficult time. These resources were a couple of illustrated books aimed to explain the meaning behind treatment and what i should expect moving forward. At that time i vividly remember being sat wishing to create one of these of my own, that is why i aim to use my co creation project to create fresh new resource which is updated with information that could now be handed to children for them to come to terms with their treatment.
For this project right now, i have no limit on the end product. I know I would like to create a fully illustrated book to help educate. However, i have no limits to where this could lead to beyond the book. Moving forward, i now aim to complete a range of research both primary and secondary by speaking to a range of people such as local charities and also oncology nurses who I know from my time on treatment. I feel it is important to gather this information not only from books but also professionals who life is surrounded by this information.
