After producing some sketches and doing some research I developed my ideas and created the three main illustrations that would be used within the posters. Within these posters I wanted to create a similar style throughout the campaign, to help create the connection between all different posters so it would become recognisable to the targeted audience.
Above shows the first piece which I developed from my original design based on the activism poster brief, however, I switched up the style and challenged myself to stick to a limited colour palette. I really liked how this design developed and felt it set the base for the rest of the posters I also particularly like how the limited colour palette would highlight some of the elements for within the design. For example, the blood bag on the floor includes the bright red base underneath to represent what the drawing is whilst the bold colour really draws you into the image allowing you eyes to really look at all the different elements. For this piece I really like it and don't feel there is too much that need changing maybe just adding the link, and playing with the type face.
Above shows the second drawing showing the idea of two hands holding pills and medication. Often whilst on treatment you are to take a range of different medications a day and for some people it can become particularly haunting especially for myself. Therefore, I wanted to include this idea within a poster and include a unique composition to really give you that feel that it is personal to put you put in that spot, so it becomes relatable. I also again really liked the limited colour palette and feel it really brings the different elements such as the tablets and also the hospital band. For patients hospital bands are something that they see so often, so to bring that into the poster it adds that more relatable feeling to the target audience. I really like this illustration and feel the design overall is really successful, I feel perhaps the overall design could be a bit plain however this sis something that I could experiment with when it comes to finalising the poster.
The third design was a design I went back to after the initial sketches from my activism poster brief. The idea was based around the idea of a cloud which felt so be hanging over you in the same way PTSD or other mental illnesses often do. Within this cloud I wanted to include symbols that the patients could relate to such, as pills, syringes, endless get well soon cards. I also added in a lighting strike as I wanted to highlight the idea of anger post treatment. After conducting my research into PTSD I found anger was something that was very common as it came to adapting to the 'new normal' and therefore I wanted to include a symbol that could highlight this feeling. Again, I really liked the limited colour palette and felt it worked really well to draw the viewer in.
Overall, I am really happy about the developed drawings so far, and definitely feel they challenged that different style that I was trying to experiment with. Moving forward I aim to begin thinking about the poster layout and design adding typeface and other elements.
