Key points and base plan-Children's book project

After doing some initial research for my project, I knew the clear next step was to begin thinking about the story itself and the topics i feel must be included. To do this i knew i wanted to set it out as a mindmap just so i could easily play out my thought process. After doing some research i knew the best way to start is to create an introduction that really introduces the character. it is important to create this introduction so the reader can really start building that relationship and connection.

From here i knew the next main step is to start explaining the main message of the story that being what is cancer? Cancer is obviously quite complex and may fee;l confusing to a child therefore it is important to really think about how to explain the truth and explain in a way that suits their age and ability. Of course my age range is 7+. At this age i feel it is best to use the word correctly being as honest as possible whilst using simple terms and examples. From both personal experience and research the idea of honesty at this age regarding a situation, is very important as otherwise may cause issues in the child’s later life relating to trust.

Other topics i know are important to move on to are mentioned above, and ideas that i feel must be explained linked to these. Some of these include hair loss, scans and treatment. All things that will play a big part of the child’s life.

Moving forward now I intend to begin thinking about the story, writing an early draft and rally just planning ideas so i then can start creating some developmental visuals such as character sheet and also storyboard.
