After playing around with some experimentation post artist research and also doing some initial sketches i had a base idea of what my character was beginning to look like. I had been sticking in my comfort zone for a while sticking to digital media simply for its ease, however, i knew for this project one of my aims was to experiment more especially with some traditional elements. I therefore began playing around with watercolour and thinking about combining the two together.
Below shows my first watercolour painting.I wanted the style to feel rather loose within its colours and bleed as i knew this is something that would be reworked afterwards digitally. I also like the idea of the running water bleed as it also added further texture to the drawing adding a sense of depth that can be hard to recreate using digital brushes.
After producing the watercolour base I was happy with, I scanned this in and began layering on top to add further detail using my iPad on Procreate. I began thinking about still adding those textual elements and stuck to a pencil style brush that will therefore not add a too linear style image. The idea was to just go over some elements such as adding in the face, and adding further texture to the hat and Pom poms.
I really loved how this came out and feel it really worked from the pink cheeks and different colour bleeds throughout. I would love to experiment with this further within my story as adds a fun style that’s i still find enjoyable whilst being out of my comfort zone.
