Primary research (discussion with CCPA’s operation manager)-Children’s book project

As well as looking at book examples, i felt a great start for my book would be to
speak to someone familiar with the subject. I decided to contact the operations manager at Childhood cancer parents Alliance. CCPA is a local Staffordshire based charity who support children and their families during chemotherapy. Rachael sees these families everyday and is familiar on all key knowledge for adapting to the new way of life. Rachael is also on the board of contact magazine. Contact magazine is a magazine designed and funded by Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group, another amazing charities supporting families in the UK.

I really wanted to use this time with Rachael her thoughts on my progress so far and if she felt there was anything missing, perhaps new research that had not come up in my own research.

This meeting was super helpful as we were able to discuss and bounce of each other different ideas that i had perhaps not thought of. For example, Rachael mentioned the idea of steroids and how this can effect the child’s mood. This could be shown not only through her facial features but also within the clothes she wears. For example during this time she could be wearing a dinosaur onesie to show during this time she is a bit snappy and on edge.

As well as some great advice Rachael also gave me a range of contact magazines with different articles which could help me when it comes to writing my story.
